Running your community — the admin settings
Where every admin tool in your community lives, who sees it, and which page explains each one.
Everything you manage in a community — its look, who gets in, what's published, the courses and lives — is done inside the community itself, signed in as its owner or an admin. Genesis only creates the community and decides which address it lives on. Use this page as a map: find the tool you need, then follow the link to the page that explains it.
Open your community (in Genesis: Settings → Overview → Community → Open community ↗), then choose Settings in the menu under your avatar. The page is headed Admin when you have admin rights.
The settings map
The left-hand menu is grouped into cards.
| Card | Items | Covered on |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Profile Settings, Security, Billing — your own profile, two-factor sign-in and orders | Your account in a community |
| Community Settings | General Settings | General settings |
| Navigation, Styles, Custom Emojis, About Page | Look, navigation & about page | |
| Private Group Badges, Rules | Badges, rules & paid access | |
| Levels, Point Rewards | Levels, points & leaderboards | |
| Channels | Channels and feed topics | |
| Analytics | Overview, Growth, Content, Members | Community analytics |
| Content | Posts Pending Approval, Hidden Posts, Reported Posts | Moderating posts and members |
| IPS Management | Course licences | Course licences |
| Add-ons | Member Blaze, Amplify, Mobile App Setup | Member Blaze, affiliates & the mobile app, Amplify |
| People | Members, Join Requests, Roles | Members & join requests, Roles & permissions |
| Advanced | Custom Scripts / Code, Page SEO Settings | SEO, custom code & legal pages |
Missing a card or an item?
You see a card only if you hold at least one permission inside it, so someone with a role sees a shorter menu than the owner. Member Blaze and Amplify appear only with their subscription.
Tools that live outside Settings
Some admin controls sit where the content is, not in Settings:
| Where | What you can do | Covered on |
|---|---|---|
| The feed | Pin, edit and remove posts, ban authors, Manage Widgets, the Featured Ad banner | Moderating posts, Look & navigation |
| Courses | Create courses and challenges, modules, lessons, categories | Courses, Challenges |
| Resources, Videos, Opportunities | Add and manage items | Resources, videos & opportunities |
| Start a Live Event (Go Live in the composer) and Events | Go live, run a stage, schedule events, edit replays | Live streams, stages & events |
/terms and /privacy |
Edit the legal pages | SEO, custom code & legal pages |
| A member's profile | Assign a role, block purchases | Members, Moderation |
Saving changes
Most settings screens show a bar at the bottom when something has changed: You have unsaved changes, with Discard and Save changes. Nothing is applied until you save, and what you save applies to every member straight away.
Who counts as an admin
- The owner — the ESTAGE account that owns the project. Always has every permission.
- People with a role — someone you gave a role to, with exactly the permissions that role carries. See Community roles & permissions.
- Moderators from before roles existed — they still hold full admin access until you give them a role.
What you get notified about
- A push notification when someone's join request is waiting ("Approve request"), and when someone asks to join a channel.
- An email when someone confirms their sign-up — see Community emails & notifications.
Things worth knowing
- Direct messages have no admin controls. Members can block someone or delete a chat themselves; admins can't read or remove other people's messages.
- Billing under Account is your own orders and subscriptions in this community, not the community's revenue.
