Connect ChatGPT

Updated October 23, 2026

Add a Genesis project to ChatGPT in the browser as a custom connector. Nothing to install, and it uses the same tools and checks as Claude and Codex.

You can connect a Genesis project to ChatGPT in your browser and let it build that project: read it, edit pages and code, work with its backend, check the preview and publish. Nothing is installed on your computer. ChatGPT talks to Genesis from OpenAI's servers, and you approve the connection once in your browser.

ChatGPT uses the same Genesis server, the same tools and the same safety checks as Claude and Codex. Only the setup differs.

Note

Custom connectors are a ChatGPT feature, so OpenAI decides which ChatGPT plans have them and where the setting sits in ChatGPT's menus. In ChatGPT it is part of developer mode. If you can't find it, check OpenAI's help for adding a custom MCP connector.

Connecting a project

1. In Genesis, copy the project's connector URL

  1. Open Account → Integrations and find Coding agents.
  2. Pick the project from the Project dropdown.
  3. Open the Claude tab and select Copy next to MCP server URL. The same address works in ChatGPT. It looks like this:
https://genesis.estage.com/api/agent/73891/mcp

The number in it (73891) is your project ID.

2. In ChatGPT, add it as a custom connector

  1. In ChatGPT's settings, turn on developer mode.
  2. Create a new custom connector (an MCP server).
  3. Paste the URL.
  4. Name it with the project ID, for example "Genesis · Acme Store · 73891". If you connect several projects, the name tells them apart.
  5. If ChatGPT asks how the connector signs in, choose OAuth. ChatGPT may also ask you to confirm that you trust the connector, because OpenAI hasn't reviewed it.

3. Approve access in your browser

ChatGPT opens a Genesis page:

  1. Sign in to Genesis if you aren't signed in.
  2. Check the project and the access listed on the consent screen.
  3. Select Allow access.

There is no token to copy. ChatGPT keeps the connection signed in from then on.

4. Repeat for each project

Each project is its own connector, with its own URL and its own name. In a project with several apps, each app is its own connector too: pick the app under App before you copy the URL. See A project with several apps.

Using it in a chat

Turn the Genesis connector on for the chat, then say which project you mean when you have more than one connected:

Work on project 73891. What pages does it have, and what's the accent color?
Add an FAQ page with eight questions and link it from the footer, then show me a screenshot.
Publish the site.

ChatGPT gets the same tools as any connected agent. The full list is in What your agent can do in your project.

Codex in the cloud

Codex tasks that run in the cloud at chatgpt.com/codex are separate from ChatGPT chats. Whether those tasks can use a custom connector is up to OpenAI. To have Codex work on a project, use Connect Codex. It runs on your computer.

Things worth knowing

  • Only the project owner can connect it. Anyone else sees "No access to this project" on the consent screen.
  • One project per connector. A connector can't reach any other project.
  • Every edit is validated the same way as edits from the AI in Genesis. Broken code is rejected and protected files stay protected.
  • Disconnecting. In Account → Integrations → Coding agents, the Connected apps list shows every connection. Select Disconnect and access stops on the next request.
  • Order-form products and payment methods are still picked by you in the builder, as with Claude and Codex.
