YouTube connector
Show your channel's latest videos, view counts and subscriber count on your site, and embed playable videos.
Connect a YouTube channel so your site shows its real content — latest uploads with thumbnails, view counts and subscriber count — and embeds playable videos.
Setup
In Settings → Connectors → YouTube:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| YouTube API key (secret) | A Google Cloud API key with the YouTube Data API v3 enabled (starts AIza). |
| Channel ID | Your channel ID, starting with UC — not your @handle or the channel URL name. |
To get the API key:
- In the Google Cloud console, open APIs & Services → Credentials and create an API key.
- Enable YouTube Data API v3 for the same Google Cloud project.
- Restrict the key to that API.
To find your channel ID, open YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Advanced settings.
Your key is encrypted on the server and never appears in your site.
Tip
Embedding a single video needs no key at all — paste its link in chat. The key is only for channel data such as latest uploads and stats.
Example prompts
Describe it in chat — no special syntax needed:
- "show my latest videos in a section on the home page"
- "add a video grid with my 6 newest uploads and their view counts"
- "show my subscriber count in the about section"
- "embed this video on the landing page"
Use cases
- A latest videos section that updates when you upload.
- A channel header with subscribers and total views.
- A video page with an embedded player.
Things worth knowing
- Your key has a daily quota set by Google for your Google Cloud project. Genesis builds video lists the way that uses the least quota, and loads data once per page view.
- Subscriber counts are rounded by YouTube, and don't show for channels that hide them.
- Republish your site after configuring so the live site picks up the connector.
