Recording your screen or camera

Updated October 25, 2026

Record your screen, your camera, or both straight from the browser — the recording goes into your ESTAGE Video library with no extra software.

The Screen recorder records your screen, your webcam, or your screen with your camera in a corner, right in the browser. When you stop, the recording uploads into your library and opens on its settings page, ready to rename, caption and share.

Open it from Add Video → Record Video in the top bar.

For recording outside the browser — one window even when it's covered, a fixed area, a pen on screen, a link on your clipboard the moment you stop — use the Estage Recorder app for Mac and Windows.

Recording a video

  1. Click Add Video → Record Video. Allow camera and microphone access when the browser asks. If the preview stays dark, click Enable camera & mic.
  2. Open the settings panel (the sliders icon, bottom right) and choose:
    • a Layout (see the table below),
    • a Camera position for layouts with a camera in the corner,
    • the recording's Title and the Folder it goes into,
    • which Camera and Microphone to use.
  3. For a screen layout, click Click to choose your screen and pick a screen, window or tab in the browser's dialog.
  4. Click Start recording. A 3-2-1 countdown runs, then the timer starts.
  5. Use Pause / Resume as needed, and Stop when you're done.
  6. The recording uploads and its settings page opens. Processing then runs like any other upload — see Uploading and processing.

The bar at the bottom shows the recording's title and a live Mic level, so you can check your microphone is picking you up before you start.

Layouts

Layout What's recorded
Screen Your screen only
Screen · window Your screen inside a browser-window frame
Camera Your webcam only
Screen + Camera Your screen with your camera in a rounded box in a corner
Screen + Cam · circle Your screen with your camera in a circle in a corner
Screen + Cam · window Your screen in a window frame, with your camera in a corner

Camera position offers Bottom right, Bottom left, Top right and Top left.

Controls in a floating window

In browsers that support it, the Pop out controls button (next to Start recording) opens the start, pause and stop buttons in a small always-on-top window. Use it when you're recording another window and don't want to switch back to the recorder tab to stop.

Things worth knowing

  • Your microphone and the screen's sound are mixed into one track. Some browsers can't capture system sound; the recording then has your microphone only.
  • Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. The recording is uploaded from your browser after you press Stop.
  • Recordings use your storage like any other upload.
