Video settings

Updated October 25, 2026

Everything you can change on one video — title, thumbnail, player controls and colors, captions, chapters, on-video buttons and the end screen.

Each video has a settings page where you shape how it looks and behaves in the player. Changes apply wherever the video plays — every site, lesson and link — because they live on the video, not on the page that shows it.

Open it by clicking a video in your library, or ⋯ → Video Settings. The left column, Player Settings, holds the sections below; the preview on the right shows the result.

Note

Most sections need Save changes (top right). The exceptions save on their own: thumbnail actions, caption tracks and cues, and interactions. The download button next to Save changes downloads the video file.

General

Field What it's for
Title The video's name in your library and in the player's browser tab
Description Your notes about the video
Folder Which folder it lives in
Video Link The player link, with a copy button
File Size How much storage the video uses

Thumbnail

The picture viewers see before they press play. Pick one of three kinds:

Tab How it works
Image Upload Image (JPEG, PNG or WebP). Remove image takes it off
Video Loop Drag the handles (or type Start and End in seconds) to pick a short range, then Apply loop. The player shows it as a looping animated preview
Video Frame Scrub to a moment and click Use this frame

Thumbnail changes apply right away — no Save changes needed.

Security

Who can watch the video: Public, Private, Specific Domains, Password or Private Link. See Privacy and sharing a video for what each one does.

Controls

Which buttons the player shows. Tick or untick Time, Progress Bar, Volume, Video Speed, Closed Captions, Quality and Full Screen. Hide All turns them all off at once.

The play button is always shown, so viewers can always start the video.

Player Skin

Setting Options
Logo ESTAGE Logo or Custom Logo (paste an Image URL)
Logo Position Bottom Right, Bottom Left, Top Left, Top Right
Player Color The accent color of the player's controls
Play Button Color The color of the big play button
Play Button Size 0.1 to 2 (1 is the default size)
Player Bar Position Top or Bottom

Closed Captions

Add caption tracks in as many languages as you need.

  1. Choose a language under Language and click Add.
  2. Click the language to open its cues.
  3. Either Import an .srt or .vtt file, or write cues by hand with Add cue — each cue has a start time, an end time and its text.
  4. Click Save cues.

On each track you can:

  • Star it to make it the track the player starts with (then Save changes).
  • Rename it with the pencil.
  • Switch it on or off — only enabled tracks appear in the player.
  • Download it as .srt or .vtt.
  • Delete it.

If your uploaded file already carried a caption track, ESTAGE picks it up during processing.

Chapters

Chapters split the timeline into named sections viewers can jump between.

  1. Click Add chapter.
  2. Type the start time as minutes:seconds (for example 2:30) and the chapter title.
  3. Click Save changes.

Chapters are always shown in time order, whatever order you type them in.

Interactions

Put a clickable button or an image on top of the video for part of it — a call to action, a sign-up link, a logo.

  1. Move the playhead to where it should appear, then click Add button or Add image.
  2. Drag it on the video to position and size it. A timeline under the preview shows when each one is on screen; drag its ends to change the timing, or type the times under On screen.
  3. For a button, set the Button text. For an image, Upload a picture or paste an image URL.
  4. Under When clicked, choose Open a link (and enter the URL, starting with https://) or Nothing.
  5. Style a button under Look: a preset (Brand, Pill, Dark, Outline, Sunny, Red), fill and text colors, weight, Corners and Border — separately for Normal and On hover if you like.

Interactions save automatically (the status reads Saved). Each one also has a Name (only you see it), Duplicate and Delete. Open Shortcuts in the panel for the keyboard shortcuts — undo and redo, nudging, and setting start or end at the playhead.

End Screen

What viewers see when the video ends.

  • Empty — the player offers Watch again.
  • Call To Action — a full-player card with a Background Color, Text Color, Title, Description, a Button (URL and text) and a Text Link (URL and text).

What viewers see in the player

  • Adaptive quality that follows the viewer's connection, with a manual Quality choice.
  • A settings menu with Subtitles (including Subtitle style: background color and opacity, text color and size), Playback speed from 0.25 to 2, and Quality — each only when you left that control on.
  • Chapters on the timeline, your interactions, and your end screen.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Space or K play/pause, ←/→ skip 5 seconds, J/L skip 10, ↑/↓ volume, M mute, F fullscreen, <** and **> change speed, Home/End jump to the start or end, and 0–9 jump to 0–90% of the video.

Things worth knowing

  • One video, one set of settings. Changing the logo or end screen here changes it on every site and lesson that plays this video.
  • Shared folders: an Editor can change everything on this page. A Viewer sees a Details panel instead — title, description, duration and upload date — and can watch and download.
  • Leaving without saving loses the changes that need Save changes.
