Connect **Spotify** so your site shows real music data — your latest releases, top tracks,
playlists and podcast episodes — with playable Spotify players. Add a refresh token as well and
the site can also show your own listening, such as what you're playing right now.

## Setup

In **Settings → Connectors → Spotify**:

| Field | What to enter |
| --- | --- |
| **Client ID** *(secret)* | The Client ID of a Spotify app you create (see below). |
| **Client secret** *(secret)* | The client secret of the same app. |
| **Refresh token (optional)** *(secret)* | Only for **your own** listening data — now playing, recently played, your top tracks and private playlists. Public catalog data works without it. |
| **Default Spotify link (optional)** | A share link to your artist page, album, playlist or podcast. Used when you don't name one in chat. |
| **Market (optional)** | A two-letter country code for catalog lookups such as top tracks. Defaults to `US`. |

To get the Client ID and secret:

1. Sign in to the Spotify for Developers dashboard and select **Create app**.
2. Open the app's **Settings** and copy the **Client ID**.
3. On the same page, select **View client secret** and copy it.

The refresh token is a one-time setup with Spotify's Authorization Code flow: add a Redirect URI to
your app, authorize it with the `user-read-currently-playing`, `user-read-recently-played`,
`user-top-read` and `playlist-read-private` scopes, exchange the returned code for tokens, and
paste the `refresh_token`. Spotify's Authorization Code flow docs walk through it.

Your credentials are encrypted on the server and never appear in your site.

> **Tip**
>
> A Spotify player for a track, album, playlist, artist or podcast works without any credentials —
> paste its share link in chat. The app credentials are only for data such as release lists and
> track lists.

## Example prompts

Describe it in chat — no special syntax needed:

- *"show my latest releases and embed a player for my playlist"*
- *"add a top tracks list to my artist page"*
- *"list the latest episodes of my podcast with a player for each"*
- *"show what I'm listening to right now in the footer"* (needs the refresh token)

## Use cases

- An **artist page** with releases, top tracks and a player.
- A **podcast page** listing episodes.
- A **now playing** badge on a personal site.

## Things worth knowing

- **Read-only.** The site shows Spotify data; it can't edit playlists or control playback on your
  account.
- **Playback is Spotify's player.** Listeners signed in to Spotify hear full tracks; others hear
  a preview.
- **Owner data needs the refresh token.** Without it, blocks such as now playing stay hidden while
the rest of the page works.
- Republish your site after configuring so the live site picks up the connector.
