# Products, coupons & tags

> What you sell and how you label it — the product editor, what happens after a purchase, discount coupons, and the tags that tie everything together.

Three related pieces: **Products** are what you sell, **Coupons** discount them, and **Tags**
label the people who buy.

## Products

**Manage Products** lists everything in the catalog:

| Column | |
| --- | --- |
| **#ID · Thumb · Title** | The product |
| **Type** | **Digital** or **Physical** |
| **Price** | What it costs |
| **Purchases** | How many times it's been bought |
| **Users** | How many people currently have it |

Search by name, narrow the list to **All products**, **Digital** or **Physical**, and organise
with **folders** — **New folder** sits next to **New product**, and a product's **⋯** menu has
**Move to folder**. Tick rows and use **Actions** to move or delete several at once.

**New product** first asks *"What are you selling?"*:

- **Digital product** — sold on its own, at its own checkout. Nothing ships: access, a file, a
licence. Can be a subscription. Courses, memberships and downloads are digital.
- **Physical product** — sold from the [online store](https://support.estage.com/store), with options, stock per variant, a
weight and shipping. See [Products & inventory](https://support.estage.com/store-products).

The choice decides which editor opens and can't be changed afterwards. The rest of this section is
about **digital** products.

> **Note**
>
> Deleting a digital product removes it. Deleting a physical product **archives** it instead: it
> leaves the storefront and stays in the list as archived, and past orders keep their copy of it.

### The product editor

Five tabs:

**General** — product name, description and cover image.

**Pricing** — the commercial terms:

- **Price interval** — **One Time Payment**, **Monthly**, **Annual**, **Free**, or **Custom
  plans**.
- **Payment providers** — which of your connected gateways can take this. Price and currency stay
locked until you pick at least one.
- **Price / Currency** — the amount.
- **Free trial** — on monthly and annual products: on or off, and how many days.
- **Vault Product** — on any paid product: pays the owner out directly.
- **Payment plans** — with **Custom plans**: alternative billing periods (lifetime, per month, per
year), each with its own name, price and terms.
- **Purchase disclaimer** — shown to the buyer at checkout.
- **Billing terms** — the small print for recurring charges.

**Commission** — whether the product is commissionable, and which
[affiliate programs](https://support.estage.com/commerce-affiliates) earn on it.

**Vendor** — the vendor account and program to credit, when someone other than you is paid for
this product.

**License** — a license limit (**Not licensed**, **Single hub** or **Unlimited hubs**) and
embedded codes, for products distributed with a key.

### After a purchase

At the bottom of **Pricing** are the automatic actions. **Action upon purchase** (called *Action
upon enroll* on a free product) runs when someone buys; **Action upon refund** runs when the money
goes back (paid products only). On a monthly or annual product there's also **Action
upon cancel**, which runs when the subscription stops — a renewal that didn't go through, a
subscription the payment provider cancelled, suspended or paused, or one ended by hand. When the
purchase adds tags, **Take back what the purchase granted** fills it in with the matching removal.

| Action | What it does | On purchase | On refund | On cancel |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Genesis Redirect** | Send the buyer to a page in a Genesis project | ✓ | | |
| **Legacy Redirect** | Send them to a page on the classic platform | ✓ | | |
| **Custom URL** | Send them to any address | ✓ | | |
| **Autoresponder** | Push them to a connected [autoresponder](https://support.estage.com/crm-email-integrations) list, with tags | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Add Tags** | Tag the buyer | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| **Remove Tags** | Remove tags from them | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |

Add as many as you need — each is picked from the dropdown and appears as a removable chip with
its own settings below.

> **Tip**
>
> The pairing worth setting up on day one is **Add Tags** on purchase and **Remove Tags** on
> refund — and on cancel, for a subscription — using the same tag. That gives you a `customer-<product>` tag that's always accurate,
> which is then a [segment](https://support.estage.com/crm-contacts#saved-segments), an
> [automation](https://support.estage.com/email-automations) trigger, and a [broadcast](https://support.estage.com/email-broadcasts) audience — for
> free, forever.

## Coupons

**Manage Coupons** shows the **code**, its **type**, when it **starts** and **ends**, the
**discount**, how many times it's been **used**, and its **status**. A filter narrows the list to
**All coupons**, **Digital** or **Physical**.

**New coupon** asks *"What kind of code?"*:

- **For digital products** — a code at a product's own checkout, one-time or recurring. It also
works in the store cart, which tries its own discounts first.
- **For physical products** — a store discount: off the order or chosen products, buy X get Y, or
  free shipping. See [Store discounts](https://support.estage.com/store-orders#store-discounts).

Creating a coupon for digital products:

| Field | |
| --- | --- |
| **Coupon code** | What the buyer types — `SUMMER25` |
| **Coupon details** | Internal notes, never shown to buyers |
| **Discount** and **Discount type** | **Percent (%)**, **Fixed amount**, or — on plan and subscription coupons — **Trial days** |
| **Coupon type** | **Product (one-time)**, **Plan** or **Subscription** |
| **Duration** | For subscriptions: **Once**, **Forever**, or **Repeating** for a set number of months |
| **Products / Plans** | What it's valid on |
| **Tags** | Only a signed-in buyer who has one of these tags can redeem it. The store checkout has no sign-in, so a tagged coupon works on order forms only |
| **Limit usage count / Max uses** | Cap the total redemptions |
| **Active date range** | The window it works in |
| **Active** | Whether the code works at all |

The code is saved in capitals. Coupons live in folders like products do, and the used-count on the list is the fastest read on
whether a campaign code actually landed.

## Tags

**Manage Tags** is a simple catalog: **#ID**, **tag name**, **description** and **date created**,
organised in folders like products and coupons. Creating one takes a name and an optional
description — the description is for you, so
`vip` doesn't become a mystery in six months.

Tags do a lot of work across the CRM:

| Where | How |
| --- | --- |
| **[Contacts](https://support.estage.com/crm-contacts)** | Filter by tag; add or remove tags on a selection |
| **[Automations](https://support.estage.com/email-automations)** | *Tag added* and *tag removed* are triggers; *add tag* and *remove tag* are steps |
| **Products** | Applied or removed automatically on purchase, refund and cancel |
| **Coupons** | Limit a code to buyers who have the tag |
| **[Affiliate programs](https://support.estage.com/commerce-affiliates)** | Grant access to a program |

That makes a tag the connective tissue between commerce and email: a purchase applies a tag, the
tag triggers an automation, the automation sends the onboarding sequence.

See [tags, lists and segments](https://support.estage.com/crm-lists#tags-lists-and-segments) for when to reach for which.

## Things worth knowing

- **Changing the catalog takes its own permission.** A team member can create, edit or delete
products only if their [role](https://support.estage.com/project-settings-roles) grants that action under **Products**,
and the same goes for coupons under **Coupons** — being invited to the project isn't enough.
Without it, the change is refused. They can still change a product or coupon they created
  themselves.
