# Modules and subdomains from chat

> Ask the AI to create a module — a part of your site with its own subdomain and home page — and to put a module or app on your own domain.

A [module](https://support.estage.com/project-settings-modules#a-module-on-its-own-subdomain) is a part of your site that
opens on **its own subdomain** with its own home page — `members.yourdomain.com`,
`store.yourdomain.com` — while staying in the same project and code as the main site. You can
create one from the module switcher, or ask the AI.

## How to trigger it

Describe the separate area and where it should live. For example:

- *"Create a members area at members.mysite.com"*
- *"Make a separate module for the store, called Shop"*
- *"What modules do I have?"*
- *"Put the Members module on my domain"*
- *"Connect the web app to app.mysite.com"*

## What happens

**Creating a module.**

1. The AI creates the module from the name you give. The subdomain label comes from the name
(letters, digits and dashes), unless you say which one you want.
2. The module gets a starter home page and a free ESTAGE address straight away; the AI tells you
   the address.
3. The AI builds the module's pages. New pages it adds while working in the module belong to the
   module.

**Putting a module or app on your domain.** When the project has a custom domain, ask for a
module — or another [app of the project](https://support.estage.com/platform-apps) — to be connected, and it's attached
as `name.yourdomain.com`. For a module, publish the project to put its content on the
subdomain; the AI says when that's needed.

If the subdomain is already used by your site, your community, another module or another app, the
AI tells you which one holds it. Free it there first.

## Tweaking without chat

Every module shows up in the module switcher in the editor, where you can pick it, connect it to
your domain, or disconnect it — see [Modules](https://support.estage.com/project-settings-modules#a-module-on-its-own-subdomain).

## Things worth knowing

- **Creating a module from chat needs the Claude Code agent.** Connecting a module or app to
your domain, and seeing what can go on it, work with every agent.
- **A custom domain comes first.** Without one connected, the AI points you to
[connecting a domain](https://support.estage.com/domains-connect). The free ESTAGE address works either way.
- **While you work in one module, the builder doesn't edit another module's files.** Switch
modules to work on a different one.
- **Modules are for websites and web apps**, not mobile apps.
