# Importing a blog post from a URL

> Move an existing article into your Genesis blog — its title, text, cover and address come across as written, saved as a draft.

Moving a blog from another platform? Give the AI the address of an article and it **imports**
it into your [blog](https://support.estage.com/blog): the post's own title, its text word for word, its cover image and
its address. Nothing is rewritten.

## How to trigger it

Paste the article's link and say you want it moved, not rewritten. For example:

- *"Import this post into my blog: https://oldblog.com/2024/spring-menu"*
- *"Move these three articles from my old site into the blog"* — followed by the links

One article per link. For several, list them all; each is imported on its own.

## What happens

1. Genesis reads the page and finds the article in it — the heading, the text, the page's share
   image and its publish date.
2. If the project has no blog yet, the blog is turned on first.
3. The post is created as a **draft**:

| Part | Where it comes from |
| --- | --- |
| **Title** | The article's main heading, or the page's share title |
| **Body** | The article's text, as written |
| **Cover** | The page's own share image. No AI cover is generated; an article without one gets no cover. |
| **Address** | The last part of the old link — `/blog/spring-menu` |

4. The AI tells you the old address and the new one. If they differ and your domain now points at
this project, add a [redirect](https://support.estage.com/project-settings-redirects) from the old address so links and
   search rankings carry over.

Publish the draft from the [Blog panel](https://support.estage.com/blog-posts), or ask the AI to publish it.

## Tweaking without chat

The imported post is an ordinary post. Edit its text, cover, author and categories in the
[Blog panel](https://support.estage.com/blog-posts), or ask by chat — see [Managing the blog with AI](https://support.estage.com/blog-ai).

## Things worth knowing

- **Images inside the article aren't carried over.** Only the cover comes across. Add the others
  to the post afterwards.
- **The page has to be public.** A page behind a sign-in, or one with no article text on it,
can't be imported — the AI says it couldn't read it and nothing is created.
- **Give your own title or cover** in the same message if you want them instead of the article's.
- **Works with every agent** — Claude Code, Codex and Kimi.
